No sign of Hope on the new Cabinet

Fawzia Koofi, the Afghanistan’s feminist leader and Member of Parliament, expresses her disappointment after the Afghan government has formally presented to parliament a list of nominees for the new cabinet of President Hamid Karzai. First Vice President Mohammad Qasim Fahim presented the cabinet list to the Wolsi Jirga, the lower house of parliament.
Lawmaker Fawzia Koofi was saddened seeing all the nominees were chosen based on their political parties and ethnic affiliation. She added there is less hope about the new cabinet to accomplish in a different way than past eight years that decrease corruption, insecurity, poverty, violence against women, strengthen responsibility and rule of law, and many other issues people going through.

Almost nothing has changed, she added. Lack of woman on the new cabinet is another concerning. The new cabinet includes only one woman, despite Karzai promise and international community commitment for gender equity and women rights promotion.
Fawzia Koofi while speaking in the lower house of parliament, requested from other lawmakers to study the personality of nominees and decide to vote for candidates who will be able to provide a better service and be responsive to people's great needs. Foreign countries back most of the nominees; it’s our responsibility to use our eight years parliamentarian experiences choosing the right people for our country.

Miss Koofi added, the new cabinet introduced by Karzai with its structure would not be able to respond the people need, fighting corruption, poverty, insecurity, etc. However, she believes the only way to bring transparency to ministers work and make them responsible to people's need is to strengthen parliament oversight rule as National voice. In the longer, the solution is decentralization of power and having a prime minister to chair the evacuative branch of the government.
